Dynamics of steps along a martensitic phase boundary I: Semi-analytical solution

چکیده
We study the motion of steps along a martensitic phase boundary in a cubic lattice. To enable analytical calculations, we assume antiplane shear deformation and consider a phase-transforming material with a stress–strain law that is piecewise linear with respect to one component of shear strain and linear with respect to another. Under these assumptions we derive a semi-analytical solution describing a steady sequential motion of the steps under an external loading. Our analysis yields kinetic relations between the driving force, the velocity of the steps and other characteristic parameters of the motion. These are studied in detail for one, two and three-step configurations. We show that the kinetic relations are significantly affected by the material anisotropy. Our results indicate the existence of multiple solutions exhibiting sequential step motion. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Quasistatic propagation of steps along a phase boundary
We study quasistatic propagation of steps along a phase boundary in a two-dimensional lattice model of martensitic phase transitions. For analytical simplicity, the formulation is restricted to antiplane shear deformation of a cubic lattice with bi-stable interactions along one component of shear strain and harmonic interactions along the other. Energy landscapes connecting equilibrium configur...
متن کاملSemi-analytical Solution for Time-dependent Creep Analysis of Rotating Cylinders Made of Anisotropic Exponentially Graded Material (EGM)
In the present paper, time dependent creep behavior of hollow circular rotating cylinders made of exponentially graded material (EGM) is investigated. Loading is composed of an internal pressure, a distributed temperature field due to steady state heat conduction with convective boundary condition and a centrifugal body force. All the material properties are assumed to be exponentially graded a...
متن کاملAnalytical Solution of The Laminar Boundary Layer Flow over Semi-Infinite Flat Plate: Variable Surface Temperature
In this paper, the problem of forced convection over a horizontal flat plate under condition of variable plate temperature is presented and the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) is employed to compute an approximation to the solution of the system of nonlinear differential equations governing the problem. This paper provides good supplements to the existing literature and generalizes the previ...
متن کاملDirichlet series and approximate analytical solutions of MHD flow over a linearly stretching sheet
The paper presents the semi-numerical solution for the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) viscous flow due to a stretching sheet caused by boundary layer of an incompressible viscous flow. The governing partial differential equations of momentum equations are reduced into a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (NODE) by using a classical similarity transformation along with appropriate boundary cond...
متن کاملPhase field approach to martensitic phase transformations with large strains and interface stresses
Thermodynamically consistent phase field theory for multivariant martensitic transformations, which includes large strains and interface stresses, is developed. Theory is formulated in a way that some geometrically nonlinear terms do not disappear in the geometrically linear limit, which in particular allowed us to introduce the expression for the interface stresses consistent with the sharp in...
